Anyone who knows me knows how I feel about music (hint: I love love LOVE it). So naturally, I attend as many concerts as I can. As you may have noticed from the music on my site, I’m not into the typical soft, artsy type music you’ll hear on most photographers’ websites. Not that there’s anything wrong with a little Jack Johnson! But I’m a rocker at heart, and my 2013 concert series kicked off with an amazing show from a band I’d been longing to see live for so long now– Halestorm. As soon as I heard they were coming to Nashville, I knew the 3 hour drive and early class the next morning would have to take a backseat. I was so stoked when I was let in the door with my camera (which has been an issue in the past) until I saw the 6 foot barrier, complete with security guards, blocking off the stage. So I snapped as much as I could, decided my efforts were futile, and made the executive decision to just rock out instead 😉 And hey, I at least managed to get a good shot of the outside of the building! haha… I’ll be back at Marathon Music Works 9 days from now to see Sevendust (complete with backstage passes!!) so I may or may not try to grab a few shots then, as well.

The opening act was a Paramore-esque Nashville group called The Nearly Deads. They were full of energy and really kicked the show off with a bang. And here’s a fun fact– their singer, TJ, was the first female lead vocalist I’ve seen live! Next up was Adalene, another great local band with a bit of a harder edge. Then, after hours of anxiously awaiting the big moment…it was time. Halestorm took the stage, and I pretty much lost my mind. I am of the opinion that Lzzy Hale is the greatest female vocalist of all time. I could link to about a million amazing YouTube videos of Lzzy hitting unnaturally high notes, or her brother/drummer Arejay playing a drum solo with his feet.
