Savannah + Nathan: September 18, 2021

As anyone who’s planned a wedding can tell you, nothing ever goes quite as planned. For Savannah and Nathan, that meant a last minute change of venue and a lot of scrambling, but with the help of family, they pulled off the perfect day at Steel Magnolia Farms. Savannah’s unique sense of style came through in so many ways, including the stunning, sunset colored florals she chose and her amazing bow veil. The jewel toned bridesmaids’ dresses worn by her girls tied everything together without being too matchy-matchy. And even though rain threatened to bring everything indoors, these two waited it out and we had perfectly overcast weather and a great breeze.

Savannah’s bridal style is one of my favorites to date. She accented her timeless, flowing white gown with an oversized bow veil, simple jewelry and pointed toe heels with the cutest beaded detail. I told her she reminded me of the vintage Barbie dolls I played with when I was little, which is of course the highest compliment from a 90s kid. Her dress had so many beautiful layers, I said it was just made for twirling! So obviously we had to take advantage of that with some images that I really think capture the joy of the day.

The colors Savannah and Nate chose for their wedding party perfectly fit the color scheme of the wedding, and I love that the girls wore very different dresses in a variety of colors. The guys kept it classic in khaki suits and bowties– a look you can never go wrong with. The girls were so calm and really seemed to be soaking in every moment by Savannah’s side, while the boys– well, they were being boys. When I suggested we do a walking shot, they asked to hold hands. I told them that was fine, but only if they also skipped. I was not disappointed! haha

Savannah and Nate opted to not do a first look, so their genuine emotion when seeing each other for the first time that day was so special. Savannah was walked down the aisle by her sister Ivey and I absolutely loved the smiles on both their faces as she walked her sister towards her soon to be husband. The ceremony was full of lots of laughs, and lots of birdseed. Some of my favorite images are of the recessional, as guests showered the bride and groom with birdseed, which was a little messier than anticipated.

Working against a rainy forecast and the setting sun, we were still able to capture lots of beautiful portraits for Savannah and Nate within a very short time. They made it so easy for me, as you can really feel their connection when you look at their images. We weren’t able to schedule an engagement session together, but these two fell right into every pose with ease. Savannah requested some portraits in front of their floral arch, and I’m so glad she did because it made the perfect, colorful backdrop.

Despite some last minute chaos, everyone was able to pull together and create an amazing day for a couple that is so deserving. Savannah and Nate were nothing but smiles all day, proving that they were focused on the most important part of the day– becoming husband and wife. I am so thankful that they not only chose me as their wedding photographer, but also trusted me to make the right decisions and do the best work possible with the constraints I had to work with. Mr. + Mrs. Mitchell, congratulations on a beautiful day and best wishes for a beautiful life together!
