If you know me, you know how much I LOVE Christmas. I am a full blown Griswold from November 1st well into the New Year. I had grand intentions of sharing this post at the beginning of December, but unsurprisingly I got caught up in all the festivities (and weddings!) and wasn’t able to sit down to work on it until after Christmas. But since the holidays are fresh on our minds and your houses are probably still decorated too, I wanted to go ahead and share my Christmas house tour with you all. My house is nothing grand, and I don’t have tons of money to spend on decorations, but what I do have is a great big imagination and a love for after Christmas sales! 😉 I have a storage building full of Christmas decor, and I’m pretty sure I paid full price for almost none of it. In total, I have eight trees in the house this year, but five of them are pretty small so it’s not as crazy as it sounds! I wanted to feature a few of my favorites on the blog and hopefully share some inspiration with you all.The dining room is probably my favorite room in the house. I always love decorating with cream, rose gold and blush and decided to use it for the dining room this year. I keep my mantle up year round and decorate it depending on the season. The set of trees in front of it are a Walmart find I spent all last year trying to score. It took me 4 trips this year to finally find them in stock! My floor was a mess from all the flocking between those three and my full size tree, but it was totally worth it. I don’t usually do much decorating on my table, but I found this set of Disney princess china at Dirt Cheap and since it matched my theme, I FINALLY had a reason to set it out!Another of my obsessions is of course: Disney World! Willa’s room is decorated with a Disney World theme, so obviously she has to have a Disney tree! She got to take charge of decorating, so I had to put my Christmas OCD aside and let her take the lead. Her tree is yellowed (because she wouldn’t let me buy her a new one) and her lights have green wire instead of white (because she wouldn’t let me find the white ones) but to her, it’s absolutely perfect and that’s all that matters. Lots of the ornaments on her tree are mine from childhood, including Disney and Barbie ornaments. Several of her favorite stuffed animals are beneath the tree, including her Christmas Mickey and “Devil Dog,” her Marine Build-a-Bear.If you live in Northeast Alabama, you KNOW that Eddie’s in Henagar is a Christmas tradition. Hundreds of beautifully decorated trees are throughout the store, and I felt like my mind was going to explode with the overload of inspiration! One room there was dedicated to the military, so I was inspired to do a Marine tree in our hallway for Josh! The tree I had for it was so thin that it was hard to fit many ornaments, but I think it’s the perfect size for a skinny hallway. I bought several of the Marine ornaments at Eddie’s, and topped it with a campaign cover my dad had collected at some point. For the living room theme, I chose a rustic Christmas look. I was heavily inspired by ticking stripe (the old school red and white striped pattern) and vintage, handmade decor. I wanted it to feel like the tree was full of old ornaments handed down through the years. In reality, most of it came from Hobby Lobby and Walmart, but it still gives me nostalgic vibes every time I look at it. The cotton basket next to my tree was another of my daddy’s antique finds, as were the Christmas albums I stacked on top of my record player. The entry table with Willa’s photo with Santa from last Christmas is one of my favorite little areas. The Wilson sign was made by Alice Circle, the candle is vintage, and the Disney sign is from one of my favorite now-defunct small shops, The Salty Moose. I found the cute striped trees at Walmart this year and was so excited with how well they fit my theme.
In true 2020 fashion, my Christmas decorating plans were less than perfect this year. Since photographing these for the blog, big sections of lights have gone out on three of my trees, and half of my outside lights don’t work. I set up my Christmas village, plugged in three of the dozen or so houses, and just forgot to light the rest. Our stockings laid in a rocking chair and were never hung– I sat them up with the presents on Christmas morning. All that to say: while the photos may look perfect, my house and my life are in a state of constant chaos. My friends can tell you, it’s a rare sight for my whole house to be completely clean. But that won’t stop me from spreading Christmas cheer, even if it’s less than perfect. Here’s to saying goodbye to 2020 and welcoming 2021 with open arms! From our family to yours, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year <3
