Last week’s session with Leslie and Jonathan started out pretty normal. As usual, I talked too fast and made lame jokes, and somehow managed to take a few pictures along the way! But then…disaster struck. As we made our way down an alley, some birds flew away overhead. I instinctively ducked. This is because I am afraid of birds in the way that other people are afraid of the dark, or heights, or spiders, or clowns. Birds are just the worst, and there’s no convincing me otherwise. But this was only the beginning of my personal terror. As I was getting set to take our first few shots, the sound of wings flapping furiously echoed down the alley. I refused to look behind me where the sound was coming from, but I was informed that a bird (which I presume was the size of a small child) was trying to fly out of a partially boarded up window. Each time the bird would try to fly, I would squeal, shut my eyes, and hyperventilate just a little. This made for some really great genuine smiles, as my sweet clients couldn’t help but laugh at how ridiculously terrified I was. So pretty much, I acted like a crazy person, and was somehow rewarded with some shots I really love! These two were so easy to get along with and were easy to loosen up in front of the camera. My favorite images are always of people just interacting with each other and being themselves, and Jonathan and Leslie fell right into that. You can definitely see the love that has kept them together through five years of marriage!
P.S. KC Photography loves all animals equally. Except birds. I’m serious, you guys.
